three comments from sauseschritt´s dear readers made me think again of the very special moments when exotism and daily routine interfere with each other. if you look at these three fotos you might more think of patagonia (having in mind the books of [bruce chatwin ...] than of a normal sunday hike in lower austria. what makes us fantasize when we look at these "exotic" fotos, what makes us wish to escape? following these questions we may become finally aware of the fact, that we should be more sensitive of the things arounding us.

we are used to trust pictures as they were the truth. this is everyday routine. therefore it is necessary to clearly identify political interests attached to picture making, especially if these pictures are commissioned by a military institution.
unfortunately the current exhibition die junge republik. alltagsbilder aus österreich 1945 - 1955. does not really concentrate on the real intentions, the american
usis had to follow when collecting all these pictures on austrian daily life between 1945 - 1955. usis fotos are presented as if they were neutral and as if they had no specific mission at the beginning of the cold war. this is, from an historical point of view naive, from an ideological one shocking. slobby work,
mr. petschar!
